A PREVIEW OF 'Indie Banquet II' FROM 'Pizza for the People' - 24/11/2016

Logo of the organisation.
New to the Leeds music scene is the gig night 'Indie Banquet'.

Run by new organisation 'Pizza for the People', the aim behind the event being to bring a love of music and a love of food together which shall allow attention to be brought to the local band scene.

On the 16th December, Indie Banquet returns for its second night for the Pizza for the People Christmas Party at which COWTOWN (a variant mutant pop three-piece), Team Picture (a fuzz-rock five-piece), Party Hardly (a hazy dream-pop four-piece), Yard Wars (a psyche / punk / pop five-piece) and The Orielles (a garage / surf / psych three-piece) will be taking to the stage, all of which are from Leeds, Wakefield, Halifax and Liverpool.

During the night, food will be provided by The Pizza Guy and Vegan Fried Chicken.

Tickets for this event can be purchased for £7.50 (including booking fee) here.

The venue, Wharf Chambers, is a member only venue and therefore you will not be allowed into the gig if you are not a member. You can click here to become a member for just £1! An amazing price to allow yourself to get into the 'Pizza for the People' gig.

I got a chance to chat with the two people behind the organisation, Ryan and Julia, ahead of this event and this is what they had to say:

'So we started Pizza for the People and our night Indie Banquet because we really love going to gigs and discovering independent bands as well as eating out (Pizza is our favourite hence the name Pizza for the People!) but we quickly came to the realisation that we’re not the only ones to share a love of these two things and that there aren't many places you can do the two things together, so thought we’d do something about it.

It's a really exciting time for us because there's loads of great talent on our doorstep both musically and food-wise, and so many great new venues opening up all over the North that are yet to be discovered. With plenty to choose from in Leeds, we want to use as many different venues as possible and show case them too!

Even though this is only our second Indie Banquet, we’ve already had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented bands such as The Orielles, Cowtown, La Bête Blooms, Trash and Team Picture as well as working with (and sampling!!) some awesome street food vendors and we’re currently in the processing of planning some more…

So keep a look out for more dates and come join our Christmas party down at Wharf Chambers if you fancy it!'

This organisation is one which I love the sound of and I am excited to hopefully become apart of in the future by going to one of the gig nights put on by them as they are providing two of my favourite things as well as giving me a chance to discover some amazing up and coming bands from the North and they will also be giving me the chance to go to many venues which I may not have been to before, such as Wharf Chambers which two weeks ago I didn't know existed. The fact that they provide vegan food is something which made me rather happy as well.

All of this for just £7.50 (or around that price) is another reason why I love the sound of this new project, it is affordable.
